Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? ( approx. 400 words)

Production

My brief is to product two front covers and two content pages for a music magazine which is being launched by  Tracklist, and also a working website page for the magazine.  Tracklist aims to target young people between the ages  of 16-25 which liked to be entertained. From my research gathered, I have discovered that most 80s style music magazines are designed to attract both male and female audiences by using both gender representations on the front covers. They use short and sensationalist language, direct mode of address, bright and vibrant colour schemes, short and catchy cover lines which cover such as new album releases, rock and pop icons, new wave revolution, rock and metal attitude, music and fashion trends, behind the scenes drama, exclusive interviews and the rise of MTV and music videos. In order to engage with this target demographic, I will be using models of this current age and representations of different social groups to promote inclusivity and reflect ideologies commonly associated with mainstream youth culture, this includes left wing ideas about gender and sexuality. I am also going to use  bright colour scheme to comply with the 80s theme and relate with my current audience. The mis en scene in both of my covers and content pages will be similar in order to create a clear sense of branding, this allows the reader to get to know and understand the magazine. Both of my covers and content pages will include different colour schemes, costumes, makeup artists and social groups will ensure that the mis en scene will differ.

Website

The same style of branding will be created through a strong sense of branding on the magazine website. A red, black and white colour scheme will dominate the page design. Many music magazines include their masthead on the website page, I will do this to reinforce the idea of brand identity, with the Tracklist logo being placed on the top of the page. Several advertisment’s will be placed throughout the page, which would be relatable for 16-25 year olds with topics such as mental health helplines, second hand clothing apps, cheap holiday packages, self care products and several student discounts. The articles which will be included are topics such as the editors note and music news, exclusive interviews, the ultimate 80s playlist, 80s fashion and music, concert and tour reviews and a fan zone, I have found these from my research conducted. For the audio visual section, I will have a conducted interview with the creator of the site who talks about everything to do with the creation of the magazine, which is commonly popular for the target audience who are interested in the magazine.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

In order to encourage my audience to refer to my magazine website after reading the magazine itself, I will use a subheadline on both of my covers and content pages to tell the readers to website to have access to more exclusive content. In order to make the products digitally convergent each page will have an easily scannable link which directs users directly to the website. From my current research, many advertisments of the subscription are on every page of the website so I will include an advertisment of the subscription on all copies which are for sale. By having this it keeps audiences engaged with a consistent and recognisable visual theme across all platforms which helps build trust and brand loyalty. This helps strengthens the overall identity of the magazine, making it more memorable and professional in appearance.
